Teaching

I have a wide teaching experience as a High-school teacher for music and as mathematics tutor at University level. In 2018, I received the Max Zorn Teaching Award from the Mathematics Department at Indiana University.

Research mentoring:

  • During the summer in 2017, I mentored Matthew Schoenbauer's REU project in Bloomington Indiana. The REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) is funded by the NSF and allows the very best undergraduates from across the US to work on research projects. Shoenbauer is an undergraduate at Notre Dame University and has recently been awarded a prestigious Goldwater scholarship
  • During the summer in 2018 I mentored Ben Riley's REU project
  • In 2019 I was a Team leader for the Women in Topology meeting WIT III that will take place in Bonn. The WIT meetings take place every two years are aimed at writing papers in small groups. Work on the papers start several months before the meetings. Our team will continue with further collaborations beyond the work for WIT III and we have been invited to spend 2 weeks in MSRI, Berkeley, within the 2020 Summer Research in Mathematics Program.

Course work: In Bloomington Indiana I have taught the following courses so far:

  • Graduate course: Algebraic Topology. M522. Spring semester 2019
  • Calculus 1. M211. Fall semester 2018
  • Introduction to Mathematical Thinking. M391. Spring semester 2018
  • Calculus 3. M311. Fall semester 2017
  • Introduction to Probability and Statistics. M365. Spring semester 2017
  • Calculus 4. M312. Fall semester 2016

During my time as a PhD student in the University of Edinburgh I gained experience in tutoring a wide range of courses offered by the School of Mathematics:

  • Class Tutor for fifth year: MSc in Geometry and Topology (both semesters) in 2012/13 and in 2013/14
  • Class Tutor for fourth year: Topology MATH10027 in 2011/12
  • Class Tutor for second year: Facets of Mathematics in 2012/13
  • Class Tutor for second year: Several Variable Calculus and Differential Equations in 2012/13
  • Class Tutor for first year: Proofs and Problem Solving in 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15
  • Class Tutor for first year: Introduction to Linear Algebra in 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14

Music teaching

In July 2000 I passed a competitive examination process to become a tenured civil servant as high-school teacher in Spain. I ranked 11 out of 2000 applicants.
During the ten subsequent years I worked as a music teacher for students aged between 12 and 18.
From 2000 to 2005 I was Head of the music department at my school, and in 2005 I won the elections to become Head of the school.
From 2003 to 2010, simultaneously to my work as teacher, I studied for my undergraduate degree in mathematics with the Open University (the distance learning univeristy from the UK) and for a Masters in Mathematics from the Spanish distance learning univeristy, UNED.
In 2010 I obtained a voluntary leave from my high-school position and left for the UK to study first a Masters in the University of Oxford and afterwards PhD in Edinburgh. Currently I am a Postdoc at the Excellence Cluster Structures at the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
