This will be an introductory talk on p-adic Galois representations of local fields. I plan to outline the importance of these objects in Number Theory together with some methods for studying them. Special emphasis will be put on Fontaine's theory of (phi,Gamma)-modules and its relationship to Scholze's perfectoid spaces.
