In view of recent results about non-dense characteristics on energy hypersurfaces in $R^4$ due to Fish-Hofer we introduce the language of odd-symplectic manifolds. We take a look on results concerning closed characteristics in odd-symplectic manifolds supporting a virtually contact structure.This leads to statements about closed Reeb-orbits in non-compact contact manifolds.
