We use an L-functions approach to prove the generic local Langlands correspondence over a local field of characteristic p. For this, we present the Langlands-Shahidi method for the unitary groups over function fields. We work entirely on the Representation Theoretic side. We also show how to obtain the general case, for not necessarily generic admissible representations, which is done under a certain working hypothesis.
