In the first half of the talk, I will talk about the definition of log abelian variety. In the second half, I will sketch the duality theory of log abelian varieties over a standard log trait. Applying the duality theory, we get a new tautological proof of Grothendieck's component conjecture in the semistable reduction case. The notion of log abelian variety is new, and its definition is lengthy. So during the whole talk, I will focus on motivations rather than proofs.
