Holomorphic quadratic differentials on a Riemann surface induce measured foliations and singular-flat metrics that have been useful in Teichmüller theory. I will talk on joint work with Michael Wolf parametrizing the space of meromorphic quadratic differentials with poles of higher order, whose induced metrics consist entirely of Euclidean half-planes. This generalizes a theorem of Strebel concerning quadratic differentials with poles of order two. I plan to focus on our use of the theory of harmonic maps to graphs.
