„An introduction to approximate groups“
Prof. Emmanuel Breuillard, Université Paris-Sud

Approximate groups, first defined by T. Tao in 2005, are finite subsets A of an ambient group which are almost closed under multiplication (the product set AA can be covered by a bounded number of translates of A). This will be a general audience talk introducing this concept from its origins in additive number theory some 50 years ago to its recent apparition in various geometric and analytical problems in group theory, geometry and number theory.
