Abstract: Let k be a field. To a central simple algebra A over k one can associate two invariants : its period and its index. It is known that the period divides the index and that these two integers have the same prime factors. In the period-index problem one is interested to find a bound N, such that the index divides the Nth power of the period. In this talk we will discuss some approaches to this problem.
