In the first of this series of talks, we will begin our discussion with the statement of the local class field theory and then describe the local Langlands correspondence for tori. We will then state the conjectural local Langlands correspondence and the functoriality principle. We will define endoscopic groups and talk about the conjectural character identities. From here on, we will specialize our discussion to principal series representations. We will begin with Roche Hecke algebra isomorphism.
