Hauptseminar Geometrie

In the first half of the talk we shall introduce Higgs bundles for complex and real Lie groups, and review Hitchin's paper "Langlands duality and G2 spectral curves". In the second half we shall extend the previous methods to G-Higgs bundles, for G a real form, as sitting in the complex Hitchin fibration. As an application of this new approach, we give a geometric description of the connected components of the moduli space of G-Higgs bundles for certain real forms.
