„D-modules and the topology of algebraic varieties“
Prof. Nero Budur, University of Notre Dame, USA

The topology of smooth complex algebraic varieties is very restrictive. One aspect of this statement is the fact that natural strata of local systems, called cohomology jump loci, have a rigid structure: they are torsion-translated subtori in a complex torus. This has been explained by the existence of some sort of Hodge theory together with some results on transcendental numbers. We will give an elementary introduction to the subject and will talk about how the above phenomenon can be explained by some elementary D-module theory, namely by Bernstein-Sato identities.
